South East Region
As of this year aquatic sports have been regionalised, more information on this is available on the ASA website (see Links on navigation panel to left). Cranleigh as the only Rural Surrey team fall into the South East Region. This covers a vast area from Kent to Surrey to Berkshire. A regional waterpolo committee has been set up to run regional leagues and events in order to feed into the development aims of the ASA. For Cranleigh that means participating in the South Eas League, which is a split league (East and West) where teams such as Basingstoke, Southampton and Cranleigh (those committed at present) play against each other for the right to play against the winners of a mirror league in the east of the region. This year 2006 is a trial and it is hoped the membership of the league will increase for 2007, with the first play off between east and west. One of the main aims of this regionalisation is to encourage the growth of waterpolo and specially the development of juniors and womens teams.
The South East Region West league has now been established, which includes Cranleigh, Basingstoke, Oxford, Southampton and Jersey. Details of the league and results of the 2007 competition can be found in the documents below or on the South East Region webiste.
National Waterpolo League
Cranleigh have joined forces with Basingstoke Bluefins and other south eastern clubs to put together a National League team under the umbrella of Basingstoke Bluefins. The squad has seen two seasons in the third division of the league finishing fifth last year out of ten clubs. This year sees the reorganisation of the National Waterpolo League and the return of a fourth division. Due to last seasons efforts Basingstoke find themselves in the third division.
